What happens if a payment fails
Retries, the 10-day grace period, what gets suspended (and what doesn't), and how service is restored.
A failed charge doesn't cut off your service right away. Here's exactly what happens, in order.
1. Stripe retries the card
If your payment method is declined, Stripe automatically retries it over the following days using its Smart Retries logic. You don't need to do anything for a retry to happen.
2. You get an email
We email you as soon as the first charge attempt fails, so you can update your payment method before anything is affected.
3. After 10 days unpaid, outbound calling pauses
If an invoice is still unpaid 10 days after its invoice date, your account is marked suspended for non-payment and outbound calling is paused.
What still works while suspended:
- Inbound calls keep ringing normally
- You keep all your phone numbers
- The console, your call history, and your settings are all still available
- Emergency (911) calling is never blocked
What's paused: placing outbound calls only.
4. Paying the invoice restores service automatically
The moment the past-due invoice is paid, outbound calling is restored automatically — no need to contact support or wait for a manual reactivation.
Where to pay
A suspended account shows a banner with a Pay now link straight to the unpaid invoice's hosted Stripe page. You can also find every past-due invoice on your Billing page.
