I've spent the last decade building software for small businesses — CRMs, billing systems, internal tools — and the same problem kept showing up: their phone system. Either it was a hand-me-down PBX that nobody wanted to touch, or a consumer-grade app glued onto a Google Voice number, or a six-figure enterprise platform with a quote process longer than the implementation.
The agencies and MSPs who serve those small businesses had it worse. They wanted to resell phone service alongside the rest of their stack — managed IT, web, marketing — but every white-label option was either locked-down legacy software or a wholesale carrier relationship that demanded telecom expertise they didn't have time to build.
