Buy a phone number

Search by area code, vanity pattern, or city, and provision a US or Canadian number to your account.

hey-quad sources numbers from Telnyx, so you can pick from the same supply major carriers see. Most US/Canadian numbers are available immediately; toll-free and some international numbers take longer.

Search

Open Phone numbers in the dashboard and click Buy a number. You can search by:

  • Area code — fastest. Pick a state and city or just type 415, 212, etc.
  • Vanity pattern — find numbers that contain a specific digit pattern (1234, 7777, etc.).
  • City — broader search if a specific area code is dry.

The search returns up to 20 numbers per page. Each number shows its monthly cost, capabilities (Voice / SMS / MMS), and availability.

Buy

Pick a number and click Buy. The number is provisioned to your account immediately and you're billed prorated for the rest of the month.

What happens automatically

  • The number is registered for STIR/SHAKEN so your outbound calls are signed at the carrier.
  • For US numbers with SMS capability, hey-quad starts the 10DLC registration process. You'll receive an email asking for your business information; until 10DLC is approved, SMS may be rate-limited.
  • The number is wired to a default "voicemail" flow — every call hits voicemail until you configure routing.

Wire it to a flow

Open the new number, set Routing to either an extension (rings a person directly), a queue (rings a team), or a custom call flow you've built. Save and the next call uses the new routing.

Toll-free + international

  • Toll-free (8xx) numbers go through a separate verification process. Plan on a few business days.
  • International numbers vary by country. Some require local-presence documentation. Contact us if you need a non-US/Canadian number.

Common gotchas

  • Numbers can't be reassigned across orgs without a port-out request. Pick the right org before buying.
  • Toll-free numbers can't send SMS to short codes. This is a carrier-level rule, not hey-quad — plan around it for any 2FA / OTP flows.
  • Released numbers may not be re-purchasable for 90 days. Telnyx quarantines released numbers; if you change your mind right after release, you may not be able to get the same number back.
