Set up your first call flow
Get a working inbound flow live in five minutes — buy a number, create an extension, and route incoming calls to your phone.
This walkthrough takes you from a fresh hey-quad account to a live inbound number that rings your phone in under five minutes.
What you'll need
- A hey-quad account (sign up at app.heyquad.com)
- A US or Canadian phone you can answer
- About five minutes
1. Buy a phone number
Open the dashboard, go to Phone numbers, and click Buy a number. Pick an area code, choose any number from the list, and confirm. Your account is billed for the number monthly — usually $1/month for local US numbers.
2. Create an extension for yourself
Go to Extensions and click New extension. Give yourself an extension number (e.g. 100), pick WebRTC as the kind, and save. WebRTC extensions ring the in-browser softphone — you can use them right away with no hardware.
If you'd rather ring your cell phone, set the extension's PSTN forward to your number instead.
3. Wire the number to a default flow
Every newly-bought number comes with a default "ring my extension" flow. Open the number, set the Routing target to the extension you just created, and save.
That's it. Call your new number from any phone and it should ring your softphone (or cell) in a few seconds.
What's next
- Build a smarter flow — open the call-flow editor and drag in a Collect digits node to build a basic IVR.
- Add hold music — the Play audio node loops any MP3 or WAV until the next step.
- Send a voicemail — chain a Record node into Save voicemail so missed calls land in your inbox.
