Ooma Office Pro Plus is $29.95 a seat — five cents under our price, which makes it the most useful comparison on this site and the one most likely to mislead you. Ooma is unusually candid that fees exist: their own page says "monthly taxes and fees still apply due to federal regulations", and their fee explainer names four separate lines. What it does not do, anywhere, is tell you the amounts. In Florida those lines are the difference between a $29.95 plan and a bill in the high thirties.

What it actually costs in Tampa
Ooma Office Pro Plus advertises $29.95 a seat. Tampa’s local communications services tax rate is 6.02%, so with the 7.44% state portion the combined rate is 13.46%. One seat, one number, one month:

The two unpublished lines are not us being coy. The federal Universal Service charge is a percentage — 38.8% for the third quarter of 2026 — of the provider’s interstate end-user revenue, and how much of a bundled seat counts as interstate is their own allocation, which nobody publishes. On $29.95 that line could be anything from nothing to $11.62. Their regulatory-recovery fee is whatever they decide it is. So the range for Ooma Office in Tampa starts at $34.38 and has no published ceiling.

Where Ooma Office is better
Ooma is the most honest of the national providers about the fact that fees exist. Their taxes-and-fees page names all four lines and explains what each one recovers, which is more than Nextiva or Quo do. Their calling allowance is also genuinely broader than ours: unlimited to Mexico and Puerto Rico as well as the US and Canada. If you make a lot of calls to Mexico, that alone may decide it. And Ooma has been shipping this product since 2013 with a hardware line and a support organisation behind it, which a one-founder company cannot match on paper.

- Is Hey Quad cheaper than Ooma Office?
- It depends on your address, and that is the honest answer rather than a dodge. Ooma Office advertises a price before Florida communications services tax, which runs 7.74% to 15.14% depending on your jurisdiction, and before the federal Universal Service charge and their own fee lines. Our seat price already includes the Florida tax. Compare the number on the invoice, not the number on the pricing page — the arithmetic is on this page and on our Florida phone tax page.
- Do you serve businesses outside Florida?
- Not yet. Selling phone service in a state means dealing with that state’s communications tax properly, and we do one state well rather than five badly. Tell us where you are and we will let you know when we open your state.
- Can I keep my number if I move from Ooma Office?
- Yes. Your number is yours, and porting it to us is free. We handle the paperwork with the losing carrier and schedule the switch so your phones do not go quiet in the middle of a workday.
- Is Ooma Office really $29.95 a month?
- That is the advertised price of the Pro Plus plan for one user. Ooma states on the same page that monthly taxes and fees still apply, and their taxes-and-fees page lists a Regulatory Compliance Fee, a 911 Service Fee, a Federal Universal Service Charge, and state and local taxes. No amount is published for any of them; customers are sent to a calculator. In Florida, add the communications services tax to all of that.
- Does Ooma include text messaging?
- Not on the cheapest plan. Their Essentials tier at $19.95 lists no text messaging. Pro at $24.95 includes up to 250 messages a month and Pro Plus at $29.95 includes up to 1,000. So a business that texts customers is comparing our seat against their $24.95 or $29.95 tier, not their $19.95 one.
- What does Ooma charge for an AI receptionist?
- Their plan cards list an AI Answering Service and an AI Receptionist as add-ons on every tier, and publish no price for either. Ours is a named monthly tier with its own pool of AI minutes, listed on the pricing page.
